  • The Edits

This morning I received my book manuscript with edits for my review. I'm not sure why I love seeing my text marked up with red proofreaders' marks - but I do! My words on a screen telling my story of over a quindecennial of moves. I suppose it has something to do with my love of timeworn objects - rough around the edges, that tell a story of imperfection. This page from my Memoir caught my attention immediately! As I carefully review the edits of my book, I am reminded of my journey, and the many challenges of this life we have devoted for the military. Today, I can see signs of spring and I am looking forward to a new light. Please stay tuned for updates on my book release! • The Things We Carry...

#embraceinplace An Artists Memoir #coffeetablebook Coming Soon! What do you carry with you? If you have moved as often as I have, I'm sure that you have treasured items - which you pack and unpack over and over again. For me -these items are my art materials - tubes of paints, brushes, handmade papers, canvases, and turquoise stained mason jars - used for brush water. These objects come with me to each new house and inspire me to continue my story through art. Excerpt from my book - "Typically after a month or so (after the main household is somewhat settled), and depending on how the move went - how my energy level is, after unpacking boxes of wrapping paper and items that I can't even remember the importance of needing - I find my art boxes which I make sure are labeled "Art Studio," (so they are not lost in the mix of the poorly labeled household goods packages) I am ready to set up my studio. I need my place - my sanctuary. I unpack each box containing a rainbow of paint tubes, brushes, and other treasured materials, which I have carefully and inconspicuously wrapped by myself (to hide from the packers - As I was told more than once, that I am not allowed to bring my collection of costly paints, which might explode along the journey in the hot moving truck. " Over the years of moves I have fine tuned the way that I package my materials to hide from the movers and you can read about it in my upcoming book! Please join my FB Author Page for more updates! • We Remember (22 Years Ago)

An excerpt from my memoir - "Embrace in Place" As I choose which art image to post today to share with you a sneak peek into my book, it can't be any other but this piece which I painted while we were living on Fort hood in Texas in 2013. It is a painting from my series of painted houses on wood - . This day - 22 years ago changed our path as a family and similar to all who have served on this day and those who have continued to serve- the long deployments, back to back deployments, years missed, family and friends taken, lives changed, lives moved on, lives on hold, waiting for family to return, waiting for news -holding us together, mending hearts, holding on - This day - 22 years ago is painted upon our canvases and moves with us to each new place - and we unpack it and hang it upon our walls to reflect upon and to never forget. If you would like continued updates on my book progress please follow this blog and my FaceBook Author Page or my other social media sites! Thank you! Christy
