- The Edits
This morning I received my book manuscript with edits for my review. I'm not sure why I love seeing my text marked up with red proofreaders' marks - but I do! My words on a screen telling my story of over a quindecennial of moves. I suppose it has something to do with my love of timeworn objects - rough around the edges, that tell a story of imperfection. This page from my Memoir caught my attention immediately! As I carefully review the edits of my book, I am reminded of my journey, and the many challenges of this life we have devoted for the military. Today, I can see signs of spring and I am looking forward to a new light. Please stay tuned for updates on my book release! - The Things We Carry...
#embraceinplace An Artists Memoir #coffeetablebook Coming Soon! What do you carry with you? If you have moved as often as I have, I'm sure that you have treasured items - which you pack and unpack over and over again. For me -these items are my art materials - tubes of paints, brushes, handmade papers, canvases, and turquoise stained mason jars - used for brush water. These objects come with me to each new house and inspire me to continue my story through art. Excerpt from my book - "Typically after a month or so (after the main household is somewhat settled), and depending on how the move went - how my energy level is, after unpacking boxes of wrapping paper and items that I can't even remember the importance of needing - I find my art boxes which I make sure are labeled "Art Studio," (so they are not lost in the mix of the poorly labeled household goods packages) I am ready to set up my studio. I need my place - my sanctuary. I unpack each box containing a rainbow of paint tubes, brushes, and other treasured materials, which I have carefully and inconspicuously wrapped by myself (to hide from the packers - As I was told more than once, that I am not allowed to bring my collection of costly paints, which might explode along the journey in the hot moving truck. " Over the years of moves I have fine tuned the way that I package my materials to hide from the movers and you can read about it in my upcoming book! Please join my FB Author Page for more updates! - We Remember (22 Years Ago)
An excerpt from my memoir - "Embrace in Place" As I choose which art image to post today to share with you a sneak peek into my book, it can't be any other but this piece which I painted while we were living on Fort hood in Texas in 2013. It is a painting from my series of painted houses on wood - . This day - 22 years ago changed our path as a family and similar to all who have served on this day and those who have continued to serve- the long deployments, back to back deployments, years missed, family and friends taken, lives changed, lives moved on, lives on hold, waiting for family to return, waiting for news -holding us together, mending hearts, holding on - This day - 22 years ago is painted upon our canvases and moves with us to each new place - and we unpack it and hang it upon our walls to reflect upon and to never forget. If you would like continued updates on my book progress please follow this blog and my FaceBook Author Page or my other social media sites! Thank you! Christy
- Memories from another Place...And Time...
Excerpt from my memoir - A Coffee Table Art Book - in progress and in the beginning editing stage. Sneak Peek! We moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 2011, after living at Fort Bliss in West Texas for two years. "As spring thunderstorms rolled by - leading way to sweltering summers filled with fireflies, we hoped for winter snows which we hadn’t seen for some time. Explorations along the same route as Lewis and Clark had traversed many years ago, led us to old barns, and quaint river towns." In this chapter of my book, I share about the history of Fort Leavenworth and the surrounding towns, along with my paintings and photographs inspired by the environment. Stay tuned for up dates on my book progress! Christy
- Book Progress and A Painted House A Day...
Hi! Yes, it's been a while since I have updated you on my book progress. Lots of good things happening and not enough time. Before I forget, I wanted to let you know, in case you were expecting more from this blog:) I am only using this tool as a way to keep you updated with my book progress and to give you a few sneak peeks which will hopefully entice you to see more! Every so often I might throw out a little extra...but you won't see anything too deep here. But I promise you, that the book will tell more of my story... My latest work towards my book completion has been the tedious task of resizing over 200 images of my art and travel photographs so that they will print with the best resolution, which I have learned is 8.5 width and 300 dpi. At one point I was almost finished and my PDF file became corrupted and I had to re start from photo one and since this, I have learned a lot and now feel a sense of urgency to get the book completed, but there are still a lot more steps to take. My goal is to be able to send out my document, to my editor/formatter within the next couple of weeks. I will try to keep you updated on this progress! In the mean time - I thought I'd share a sneak peek of one of the pages from my book. If you have been following my art journey you may remember - "A Painted House A Day" - 183 days of painting and my blog https://wwwapaintedhouseaday.blogspot.com (which isn't active but you can still read it:) “Growing up I had two houses I called ‘home.’ As an adult and with a family of my own, I have had many houses to make a home. My husband is Active Duty Army and we move often. Although a move comes with work and saying goodbyes, we embrace each move and look forward to our new adventures, people to meet, and places to explore. Houses are houses. A home is for a family to create safety, love, and memories. As I make each move with my two daughters and husband, I find that our locations change, but our home remains the same.” Thank you for stopping by! Please check back for more updates. - On the Road (sneak peek book from my book)
"Uprooted again - we pack each treasure, and leave - with our neighbor the magnificent fern we brought back to life, we purchase new bed frames - ours broke along the road- somewhere uncrated in a moving truck along I-90". If you are a military family, you know that we are coming to the end of the PCS (Permanent Change of Station) moving season. Between May and late July is the typical time that families will be uprooted and relocated to another home. We will pack up our belongings, throw some out, give some away, and maybe acquire something new along the way - to fit perfectly in the new spaces of our new home. Our recent move was just one year ago. We moved from Georgia to Maryland During this past year a lot has happened as we settle in to our new location. Working on this memoir is a way that I am documenting all of our past nine moves. Throughout our moves, my art has been a constant and has become a journal, telling the story of each place I have lived. Have you moved recently? What is you favorite thing about your new home and environment you are now in? Leave a comment and share! Christy
- Embrace in Place (Coming Soon!)
An Artists Memoir Coffee Table Book by, Christy Tremblay Hi friends! It's time to share! Iv'e been secretly writing a book, since last December. The idea for my book first sparked in 2019, while moving for a PCS (Military Move - Permanent Change of Station) to South Korea from Tampa Florida. The making of this book was in many ways always in progress, throughout my entire journey as a military spouse. My paintings and travel photography became the pages to document each place, and friends I have met along the way add to the words of my story - through their encouragement and presence. The unique details of each location give inspiration to my narrative. My book is currently just in the very beginning of the editing stages. As, I always have the desire and need to create things and mainly make art, I have found that to self publish this book is a great fit! Although it is challenging , I am super excited to be learning and finding ways to best get my book published to share with you! There isn't a concrete date for the book release, but I am hoping it can be out before this December. Sneak Peek - Introduction _ by Lisa Stice Army spouse Christy Tremblay’s mixed-media art is the perfect metaphor for a multi-textured, multi-layered military life. As mil-spouses, we often don’t know where life is taking us next as we evolve with each new place and experience, and all of those unexpected places and experiences become layers that shape us into the people we never knew we could be. There is beauty in all that layering and evolution, in the unforeseen and in adaptation. Christy Tremblay’s unexpected journeys leads us to magical gardens and dream-like landscapes; they are places that celebrate. https://www.milspofan.com/2019/01/23/an-interview-with-christy-tremblay/ "Embrace in Place," is a memoir of my life as an artist, traveling the country and overseas - through my moves as a military spouse with my husband, two daughters, and always with a chocolate Labrador Retriever by our side. Art keeps me grounded throughout each move and carries me along. This book commemorates my journey and experiences of each new place I have lived and the art I created, inspired by the history and environment of each location. Beginning with the year 2007 in Washington State and ending with the current year of 2023 in Fort Meade, Maryland, it takes you on a journey showcasing my art and travel photographs, history, short essays, thoughts, and memories, and glimpses into a military family as they navigate moves throughout the US and beyond.
